Zippy

We autocross a 1990 Geo Storm. It is in the MSCC's H Stock class. Unlike the SCCA, our stock classes are showroom stock. That means that zippy is wearing street tires (Falken Azenis) and has a stock stock susension, exhaust and engine. Running in a class where you're not allowed to modify anything makes it much easier to keep costs down. Of course, running in a showroom stock class also means that your car has the stock amount of body roll. On a Geo Storm, that a LOT of body roll....enough to keep me on three wheels through many (most?) of the turns. They are certainly not the weapon of choice for autocross, but they are a lot of fun. You can read more about geo storms and autocrossing them here.

The 1932 Datsun

I'm building a replica of a 1932 datsun to race in the "specials" class of the for the $200X GRM challenge. The basic construction technique will be locost-style (1" steel tubing for the frame), but it will definitely be something that the guys at locostusa.com would call a "non-traditional build"; i.e. it won't bear even a slight resemblance to the typical seven-esque nature of a locost. Instead, the proportions and appearance will be modeled after a 1932-1933 datsun Phaeton. The powertrain will come from an old datsun station wagon that I have. You can read more about this project here.
Quote: "The new chassis was not only meticulously triangulated (of course) but built from round cold drawn tube. Though much more laborious and awkward at joints, it is both lighter and stronger than the generally used resistance welded square tube" - Staniforth, Race and Rally Car Sourcebook, pg. 170
